Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake slipped from No. 1 to No. 8 on the state Class A football poll following its 28-27 loss at Queensbury Saturday.
Burnt Hills (3-1), the defending New York champion, saw its 15-game win streak snapped. Queensbury (4-0), which also owns wins against Troy, Bishop Maginn and South Glens Falls, moved from No. 11 to No. 5 on the poll compiled by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
Lawrence (Section VIII, 3-0) is the new No. 1 in Class A, moving up one spot.
Guilderland (4-0) and Shaker (3-1) did a flip-flip in Class AA, with the Dutchchmen taking over the No. 24 spot and the Blue Bison moving to the honorable mention list. Guilderland beat Shaker in overtime Friday, 31-28, handing the Blue Bison their first setback inside Section II since the 2011 campaign.
Shenendehowa (4-0) moved up two spots to No. 17 in Class AA. The Plainsmen play at Guilderland Friday night in the Dutchmen?s homecoming game.
Schalmont (4-0) remained at No. 5 in Class B, and defending state champ Hoosick Falls (4-0) held its No. 1 position in Class C, with Chatham (4-0) No. 7 and Fonda (4-0) No. 11. In Class D, Rensselaer (4-0) is No. 5, Cambridge (4-0) is No. 11 and Greenwich (3-1) is No. 13.
Honorable mention teams joining Shaker are CBA, Colonie, Saratoga Springs and LaSalle in Class AA; Amsterdam, Averill Park and Troy in Class A; Broadalbin-Perth, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Green Tech and Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk in Class B; Corinth, Mechanicville and Stillwater in Class C; and Canajoharie and Whitehall in Class D.
The other No. 1s are Aquinas (Section V, 4-0) in Class AA, Maine-Endwell (Section IV, 4-0) in Class B, and Randolph (Section VI, 4-0) in Class D. Maine-Endwell owns the state?s longest current win streak at 29 games, while Hoosick Falls is second with a 17-game streak.
